Sandhill Cabernet Merlot 2014

41% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc

Garnet colour with an ever-evolving bouquet of spice, blackberry, saddle, leather, clove, pine bark, sweet oak, purple violet and earth.
A dry, medium to full-bodied wine with soft but drying tannins, good structure and moderate acidity.
Flavours of blackberry, ripe plum and sweet spice are accented by notes of leather and molasses.
The dry lingering finish shows notes of black tea, vanilla, black currant, sweet cedar and spice.
Drinking beautifully now, but will also develop more complexities through 2020.
Enjoy with leg of lamb; game meats; barbecued lamb chops; roasted root vegetables; lentil stew; 2 year old Canadian cheddar.

The story of the vintage is the record heat units or Growing Degree Days (GDD), the second highest level recorded in the southern Okanagan, at 1702 GDD. The year began with a normal spring arrival, followed by near normal rainfall throughout the season. The long, warm, sunny growing period provided a good size crop of high quality fruit. Look for white wines with pure fruit expression and big bold reds with soft tannins and ripe, rich fruit. 2014 is an epic vintage for the history books.

“Our Sandhill Cabernet Merlot from our estate vineyard in Oliver is a smooth, well-balanced wine, with excellent fruit quality and good structure. This blend shows the classic synergies of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, which have proven successful all over the world.”

Wine Making Loose crush, gentle but complete extraction of the fruit. Warm fermentation. Aged 13 months in American and French oak barrels.
