Quick Overview

Sandhill Estate & Vanessa Vineyards

Sandhill Cabernet Merlot 2016

44% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Franc, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon

Garnet colour with a lovely bouquet of plum, ripe strawberry, licorice, coffee bean, chocolate and spice box.
This is a full-bodied wine with soft drying tannins, good structure and moderate acidity.
Fruit forward flavours of plums, berries and currants fill the mouth.
The lingering finish shows notes of juicy red and black fruits, baking spice, oak and cedar.
Enjoy with 2 year old Canadian cheddar and Grana Padano cheese; beef tenderloin in rich red wine reduction, or topped with melted blue cheese or rich melted butter; grilled red meats (medium to medium-rare); rosemary lamb chops; pot roast.

The southern Okanagan Valley experienced back-to-back seasons of extreme heat units in 2014 and 2015, which saw 1702 and 1764 Growing Degree Days, respectively. The 2015 vintage saw the highest recorded GDD since the record-breaking 1998 vintage at 1778 GDD. The long, warm, sunny and dry growing period provided a good size crop of high quality fruit. Look for white wines with pure fruit expression and big bold reds with soft tannins and ripe, rich fruit. 2015 is another epic vintage for the history books.

“The reds at Vanessa Vineyard in the Similkameen Valley grow in rows blasted out of the rock. The south-western exposure of the vineyard provides maximum sunlight and heat required to produce a wine brimming with ripe, fruit characters.”

Wine Making Loose crush, gentle but complete extraction of the fruit. Warm fermentation. Aged 13 months in American oak barrels.
