Sandhill Merlot 2016

Garnet colour with a bouquet of ripe plum, blackberry, black cherry, sweet smoky oak and baking spice.
This full-bodied Merlot has soft yet drying tannins, great structure and moderate acidity.
The fruit-forward palate shows notes of black cherry and blackberry, with an added touch of spice.
The extra-dry, lingering finish shows notes of black tea, cocoa, spice, oak, blackberry and currant.
Enjoy with grilled red meats and sautéed mushrooms; Portobello mushrooms; duck confit; lamb chops with rosemary; roasted leg of lamb; beef brisket; two year aged Cheddar and Asiago cheese.

The spring began with a blast of heat and a quick start to the season. Summer and fall cooled slightly allowing a slow, long ripening season, ideal for red varietals, and for expressive aromatic whites. The valley saw slightly wetter than normal conditions; however, the vineyards remained healthy. The southern Okanagan Valley experienced 1635 GDD (Growing Degree Days), representing higher than average heat units.

Critical Acclaim

Wine Making Harvested from Sandhill Estate Vineyard in the Okanagan Valley and Vanessa Vineyard in the Similkameen Valley. Loose crush, gentle but complete extraction of the fruit. Warm fermentation, and a full malolactic fermentation. Aged 14 months in American and French oak barrels.
