BLEND
55.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38.1% Petit Verdot, 3.2% Malbec, 3.2% Syrah
FLAVOUR PROFILE
Garnet colour with an intriguing bouquet of blue plum, sweet baking spice, currant, oak, vanilla and violet. A dry, medium to full-bodied wine with silky tannins and a terrific mouth-feel. Plenty of juicy ripe fruit flavours, such as currant, blackberry and cherry, provide a more fruit-driven style, and a touch of oak and spice add to the interest. Rich black fruits and sweet spice notes linger on the finish. Pairs well with rich beef stews; beef tenderloin wrapped in bacon; Portobello mushroom stew; braised meats; marinated leg of lamb; two to three year old Canadian cheddar.
GROWING CONDITIONS
The 2009 growing season arrived late as the cold temperatures of a long winter seemed to drag on, much like 2008; the cold temperatures resulted in some reduced crops. However, unlike the 2008 vintage, the vines did catch up so that by early summer, vine development was at its normal stages. Summer was extremely hot and dry, which quickly advanced the ripeness of the slightly smaller than usual crop load, foretelling an early quick crush.
WINEMAKER NOTES
“Soft, rich and fruit driven, our legendary ‘One’ is a blend of Bordeaux varietals with a hint of Syrah. The foundation of this blend comes from three different clones of Cabernet Sauvignon, each contributing their unique character. Petit Verdot builds body and vinosity while Malbec gives a berry, floral character that contributes to the engaging aroma.”
