Small Lots Sangiovese 2014

FLAVOUR PROFILE
Bright garnet colour with a bouquet of ripe red cherry, baking spice, oak chest and earth.
This dry, medium-bodied wine has soft tannins and food-friendly acidity.
Mouth-filling flavours of cherry, red berry, earth and oak mingle on the palate.
The lingering finish shows notes of red berry tea, earth and spice.
Pairs well with prime rib roast with root vegetables; meaty lasagna; medium-rare lamb chops; steak Florentine; Shepherd’s pie; Pecorino, Parmigiano Reggiano and Manchego with fresh crusty bread.

GROWING CONDITIONS
The story of the vintage is the record heat units or Growing Degree Days (GDD), the second highest level recorded in the southern Okanagan, at 1702 GDD. The year began with a normal spring arrival, followed by near normal rainfall throughout the season. The long, warm, sunny growing period provided a good size crop of high quality fruit. Look for white wines with pure fruit expression and big bold reds with soft tannins and ripe, rich fruit. 2014 is an epic vintage for the history books.

WINEMAKER NOTES
“Our Sangiovese is the first Sangiovese grown and produced as a VQA wine in Canada. We did this to prove the value of the Sandhill site - intense heat, dry desert conditions, and sandy soil. Use of traditional Brunello yeast, classic winemaking methods, and aging in small French and American oak barrels all contribute to a special wine experience. Bottle aging for 1 to 2 years should reveal even more subtle complexities.”
Wine Making Harvested October 30, 2014. Gentle crush, then fermented in small open top fermenters with Brunello yeast. Full malolactic fermentation for a supple mouth-feel. Aged in French and American oak barrels for 20 months.
