Small Lots Syrah 2014

Purple black colour with an intense bouquet of blue plum, black cherry, smoked cedar, violet, sweet spice, vanilla extract and chocolate.
This full-bodied wine has smooth, silky tannins and plenty of jammy fruit flavours of blackberry, black cherry and dark plum.
Wonderful notes of vanilla extract, bitter-sweet cocoa, spice and black currant linger through on the finish.
Serve with lightly spiced London broils; braised meats; roasted leg of lamb with eggplant, tomato and onion ‘ragout’; bean and lentil stews; pepper steaks; Beemster XO Gouda.

The story of the vintage is the record heat units or Growing Degree Days (GDD), the second highest level recorded in the southern Okanagan, at 1702 GDD. The year began with a normal spring arrival, followed by near normal rainfall throughout the season. The long, warm, sunny growing period provided a good size crop of high quality fruit. Look for white wines with pure fruit expression and big bold reds with soft tannins and ripe, rich fruit. 2014 is an epic vintage for the history books

“The 2014 Syrah from Richard Cleave’s Phantom Creek Vineyard shows intense jammy fruit, floral notes, silky tannins and beautiful balance, unique to his site. This vintage is of a long line of distinguished vintages that have won top awards; in particular, the 2013 vintage won Silver at the prestigious Syrah du Monde in the Northern Rhone Valley of France. The Phantom Creek Vineyard has been acknowledged by Wine Access magazine as 'One of the Top Ten Vineyards in the World', and the only Canadian vineyard mentioned.” - Howard Soon, Winemaker
