With a sure hand, Howard has spearheaded the growth and development of Sandhill. Under his direction and guided by a model used by leading European producers, he works closely with each of our grape growers, practices minimum intervention in the winery and uses only the best quality equipment and barrels. The result has ensured quality and solidified Sandhill's reputation.

Never without a new idea, Howard loves to stir things up by using the Small Lots Program to create wines that are original, modern and fascinating.

Both a teacher and student eager to use new techniques, Howard has made significant contributions in wine education. A well-regarded speaker in the industry, he is one of a select group of certified wine educators in Canada. He was recently invited to judge wines at the influential LA County Fair and is a judge for British Columbia's VQA (Vintners Quality Alliance) program, which was established to ensure that BC's wines meet high standards for quality.

Howard was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia. He completed studies at the University of British Columbia and the University of Manitoba. He has been a winemaker in Kelowna for over twenty years.

Howard resides in Kelowna with his wife Wendy and their four children.
